I can't delete a product/BOM - why?

If you have attempted to delete a product or BOM, you may have encountered the message "An error occurred! You cannot delete products that are used in lots" or "An error occurred! You cannot delete products that are used on lines."? Below we will explain how you can manage these products/BOM's, you want to delete.

It is not possible to delete a product or a bill of materials (BOM) if there have been transactions (i.e., actions) involving the product/BOM. This is because historical data must not be lost.

The solution can be to "Bar" the product/BOM. Barred products/BOMs cannot be sold and therefore cannot be added to quotes, orders, invoices, etc. You can bar the product within the product card or via a bulk action from the product overview if you have many product numbers to bar.

You have the option to remove barred products/BOMs from your view so they are not visible. This is done by filtering the view in the overview:

  1. Go to the overview of your products/BOMs.
  2. Click on the dropdown field at the top left next to the search field and select "Open" under the "Status" section.

To avoid doing this every time you access your overview of products/BOMs, you can save the setting to always show only "open" products/BOMs. You do this by clicking "Remember" to the right of the search field at the top.
