Understanding the API

API stands for Application Programming Interface. In the context of Rackbeat, an API key is used to connect another platform to Rackbeat. This could be, for instance, Capture IT and their scanner setup.

Creating an API Key

Creating an API Key in Rackbeat is a simple process. To do this:

  1. Navigate to Rackbeat.
  2. Go to 'Company Settings'.
  3. Select 'API'.
  4. Click on 'Create New'.
  5. Give it a name that makes sense to you.
  6. Click on 'Create Key'.
  7. Your new API key is now generated. It's crucial to note that once you close this window, you won't be able to see your API key again, so be sure to save it in a secure location.

Deleting an API Key

If you need to delete an API Key, you can also do this within Rackbeat. Here are the steps:

  1. Navigate to Rackbeat.
  2. Go to 'Company Settings'.
  3. Select 'API'.
  4. Find the key you wish to delete and click on 'Delete'.
  5. Confirm deletion.

Please be aware, if you delete your API key, the connection to the other platform will stop. That means if you need to re-establish the connection, a new key must be created, and the key should be given to the platform.

Remember to handle your API keys with care, as they provide access to your Rackbeat data. Always store them in a secure place and avoid sharing them unnecessarily.
