Excel Changes Item Numbers That Start With 0 When Exporting From Rackbeat

If you find that Excel changes the item numbers that start with a 0 when you export your items from Rackbeat, this article explains how to work around this challenge.

When you export item lists in Rackbeat and work with items where the item number starts with 0, you may find that Excel formats the item number and thus removes the 0.

In this article, we go through how you can prevent Excel from formatting your item number.

To avoid the formatting of item numbers that start with 0, you should begin by opening an Excel file and clicking on "Data" at the top:

  • Then, click on "From Text/CSV."

  • Next, you need to select your downloaded file from Rackbeat.
Once this is done, you will see a window that looks something like this:

If you have item numbers that start with 0, as you can see in the image above, the zero will disappear.

  • To ensure the zero does not disappear, you need to find the option called "Data Type Detection" and change it to "Based on the entire dataset." See below:

When this is done, you can then see the item numbers with the starting digit 0 when you look at your main window.:

  • Now you can click on "Transform Data."

A new window will open, where you can make adjustments to the column. If everything looks correct, click on "Close & Load."

An Excel sheet will now be created with the item numbers from Rackbeat, where the 0 before the item numbers is preserved.
